The  historical sites in the country reflect the culture and the lives of the ancient and modern Indians. Several historical sites in India are also listed as World Heritage Sites.

Taj Mahal – Taj Mahal symbolizes eternal love and is the most famous structure in India. The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a tomb for his third wife Mumtaz Mahal. Because Emperor Jahan was a Mughal, the architecture of the Taj Mahal is Mughal architecture. It is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hampi – Hampi is a quiet village that was once the capital of Vijayanagar, one of the greatest Hindu Empires in India. The place is now left with ruins of the former empire dating back to the 14th century. Hampi has over 500 monuments. Visiting the place today gives people the feeling of being inside an ancient place.
Khajuraho Temples – The Khajuraho Temples are among the best treasures of India. They are the sole proof that Kama Sutra originated in India. The temples were made in devotion to sex and sexuality. These are reflected in the temples’ erotic structures which are recognized by Hindu and Tantric practicioners. The Khajuraho Temples are among the few unique temples in the world today.
Ajanta and Ellora Caves – The Ajanta and Ellora caves are  34 caves where historical paintings and sculptures are found, dating back between 2nd and 6th Century A.D.
Fatehpur Sikri –Fatehpur Sikri was one of the capital cities of the Mughal Empire during the 16th century. It is now an abandoned place and is considered a ghost town.
Humayun’s Tomb – Just like the Taj Mahal, the Humayun’s Tomb is also a Mughal tomb, but this one is dedicated to Emperor Humayun. It was commissioned by Hamida Banu Begum, the wife of Humayun.  The tomb was built in 1562 C.E. and was designed by a Persian architect, Mirak Mirza Ghiyath.
Gadi Sagar – The Gadi Sagar was built in 1156 A.D. by the architect Mahraja Jaisal. The purpose of the Gadi Sagar was to be a source of water for the people living in the area. Now, the only thing left in the Gadi Sagar is a lake, which has become a tourist spot in India.
India Gate – The India Gate is a national monument in India. It stands in the center of New Delhi.  The gate,  designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens,was built as  a War Memorial for the 90,000 soldiers who died during  World War I.
Jaipur Amber Port – This is an ancient citadel in India that was built by the Kachhawa clans of Amber. The port is a combination of  Hindu and Mughal architecture.  The Jaipur Amber Port is located on Maota Lake.

10.  Jodhpur Jaswant – This was built as a royal cenotaph during Maharaja Jaswant Signh II’s commemoration in the 19th century. It is now considered one of the best historical sites and tourist attractions in the country.
