Learn How To Install And Configure A WordPress Plugin For The Development Of A Website

A WordPress plugin is a software that you can install into your WordPress site. It adds additional functionality to your site, such as image galleries or contact forms.

How to install it:

It is basically installed in two ways. One is automatic and the other is manual. To install it automatically, you must have the following FTP access information ready.

Server Hostname for FTP access
FTP user name ( Not the same as your WordPress password)
FTP password
Connection type ( FTP, FTPS)

Go to plugins > Add new and enter the name or search term to find the WordPress plugin you wish to add.

To view information about the plugin, installation help, applicable WordPress versions etc click the details under the plugin name.

To install it, click install under the plugin name.

If the WordPress is installed correctly, the resulting screen will notify you that the plugin is installed and will wait for activation. If you wish to activate it, click at activate option given. If you don’t want just leave the page.

If it is not installed correctly or fails to install, WordPress will notify you. If you wish to try it by anyway, you can use the manual installation method.

To install it manually go through the following guidelines:

Download the latest version of the WordPress plugin to your computer.
With an FTP programme, access your sites server
Upload (copy) the plugin file or folder to the /WP-content/plugins folder
In your website administration panels, click on plugins from the menu at the top
You should see your new plugins listed. If not, with your FTP programme, check the folder to see if it is installed. If it isn’t, upload your file again.
To turn it on, click activate on the right side of the list.
Check your Administration panels or WordPress blog to see if the plugin is working

How to configure it:

If it requires some form of configuration or set up, it will add a tab to your administration panels.

Put tabs under Options. But these are not obeyed by everyone. Many places their plugin tab where it will be the most “user friendly” such as the Akismet plugin under comments since it deals with comments. Others put it anywhere they feel to be appropriate. Check the plugins official page or documentation for instructions on where they have put their configuration panel. Following the plugin author’s instructions, configuring it, it could mean setting a few options about where the plugins content is to be visible on your WordPress blog or choosing which options and functions you would like to enable. Some plugins require adding or changing the default information. However, there are a few other WordPress plugins also for its development which requires adding files in your WordPress setup.
